Special Event - Year 6 Redridge Residential

15 to 18 April 2008

Picking just about the coldest week in April, ten brave Year 6 pupils, Miss Ryley, Mr Taylor, Mr Mundye and Mrs Dolan headed to the hills! Redridge is a residential centre in Wales, offering a range of wonderful activities, including abseiling, kayaking and archery.

After Mr Taylor had chased a few sheep out the way with the minibus and negotiated the snowy roads, we finally arrived at the Redridge Centre. We should have known that the snow on the way was a sign of things to come but we weren't going to be put off by the weather.

Throughout our time at Redridge, we completed a range of activities and some children (and staff) were particularly brave in taking part when really they were quite scared!

Here are some of the activities we did:

Indoor caving - 'am I nearly there?'

Phew... made it!

Rock climbing and abseiling. Yes, we went down and up the 40ft drop!

The zip wire - 'you think I'm going down there?'

Kayaking - that water won't be smooth for long!

Archery - left a bit, right a bit.

On a walk, checking out the local countryside.

Just to prove we were well fed!

Due to the cold temperatures and the range of activities, it was important we were well fed and we certainly were, with seconds and thirds for those who could manage!

We were really proud of the children's achievements during our time away, and in particular:

  • Artur - Having great enthusiasm for climbing activities
  • Jordan E - Completing all activities bravely
  • Sawney - Being polite and helpful
  • Sadiqa - Leading the disco dancing
  • Jordan K - Being independent and organising his things well
  • Leon - Always being cheerful and encouraging to others
  • Jack - Overcoming his fears to complete all activities
  • Joshua - Doing his pyjama buttons independently
  • Curtis - Being independent and helpful
  • Paul - Being the Redridge StarĀ of the Week

A great time was had by all! Many thanks to Miss Ryley whose organising made it possible.
