This week, we welcomed Willows, Oaks and Maples out in Forest School.

Tuesday was a very wet and dark day but it didn’t stop Willows from having a great morning! They helped to re-fill our bug-hotel, (which was looking a bit weary) by filling pots with lots of different habitats, including straw, pinecones, sticks, stones, fur and conkers. We also used secateurs to cut up some long bamboo canes into smaller sticks... these are great for bugs to hide inside as they have a hole through the middle of each stick. When each pot  was full, the children chose where to position it in the hotel…
This half term, all of our classes are learning about traditional tales, so we will be doing some story related activities in Forest School.
This week, the children have been listening to the story of The Three Little Pigs, so today Oaks got creative and built their own wood and straw houses on the tough tray… and had lots of fun seeing if they could blow the straw away!

We also made pig faces using natural resources…and had so much fun being adventurous on the high cable reels and the obstacle course!
It was so lovely to see how much the children have grown in confidence and ability since starting in September.
Maples have also enjoyed listening to the story of the Three Little Pigs this week. They worked together (in the rain!) to help find long sticks and to make a fabulous stick house. It was real teamwork in action!

Later on, they had a go at making their own pink paint by hammering chalk into a fine powder and then mixing it with water. They used the paint to paint some pig faces…
