What a wonderful first half term we’ve all had in Forest School.
Willows, Acers, Cedars, Firs and Saplings have all spent either a morning or afternoon out in the woods, focusing on our theme ‘Autumn ABC’
Take a look at what each class has been learning…
 Willows

Willows have had an amazing half term in Forest School.  We’ve been learning about Autumn and have loved exploring the forest. The children have made bird feeders, conker twirlers and flags with blackberry tie dye-they really enjoyed squashing the blackberries. We’ve explored leaves, conkers, acorns and pine cones and have been looking at the colours and feeling the different textures, as well as rolling them to see how far they go.  We have also been smelling different herbs and making pictures with them by banging them with hammers…the smell was lovely.

The children liked finding different Autumn treasures in ice and painting Autumn pictures with chalk paint. One of our favourite activities was using a giant bubble wand to make giant bubbles.

All the children love being in the forest and we’re very proud of the way they are beginning to grow in independence, often choosing their favourite activities to go and do. We look forward to more exciting times in Forest school next half term.

Acers
This half term Acers children have been exploring autumn changes through sensory experiences and crafts. We have been creating hedgehogs, autumn windows, conker men and mushroom garlands. Throughout this half term we have seen some collaboration and sharing between the children. It has been fantastic to see how much the children have enjoyed and settled into forest school.

Cedars and Firs
Both classes have also been exploring all things Autumn! They picked blackberries and used them to make playdoh, to paint with, to squash and colour fabric and to make beautiful blackberry tie-dye flags. They’ve made Autumn mobiles, learnt to use the conker clamp and palm drill to make holes in conkers  and then used them to make conker worms. We had super fun making our own conker soap too! And have enjoyed exploring autumnal treasures and leaves.
Both classes have had a wonderful time and have loved exploring and learning new skills. Cedars worked together really well, especially when we played our end of session games…they were brilliant at listening to and following the rules of the games.
I’m really looking forward to welcoming them back out into Forest School again, later in the year.

Cedars
Firs
Saplings
Last but not least, our youngest children in Saplings class have started their Forest School journey, and have embraced it with enthusiasm and interest!
It’s been an absolute pleasure to observe and play with them as they explore, investigate and learn. They’ve really enjoyed rolling apples and conkers, loved sensory exploration of conkers, cones, leaves and acorns and got messy when they squashed and painted with blackberries, and made and played with mud. They’ve loved the sensory feedback from using the variety of swings and hammocks and have been practicing their gross motor and  balancing skills too.
