Firs class had fun this week engaging in lots of different sensory-based activities. They played with squishy blackberry dough, enjoyed smelling, cutting and grinding up lavender, parsley and thyme herbs and also investigated minibeasts and different natural resources using magnifying glasses.
It was brilliant to see so much investigation going on during the morning…
Larches started their session with a predator and prey game called ‘hawks and blackbirds’. There were 2 blackbirds to each nest and one of the pair had to fly to the worm patch to collect worms in order to feed their young. However, the hawks were able to sweep in and eat the blackbirds as soon as they left their nests! So they had to think carefully about when to leave and had to make sure they got back safely with their worms.

We continued learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
We remembered what kind of things our forest animals like to eat and following on from a request last week, made some bird feeders for our herbivore bird friends, using apple pieces, cranberries, raisins and a few cheerios.
We didn’t want to leave out our omnivore bird friends, so helped them out by digging up some worms! We left a few out to see if anyone would be interested in eating them…

Poplars also helped to remember, identify and name some of the creatures that we find in our Woodlands. We talked about what these animals might eat, and learned that some eat meat, some eat plants and some eat both.
We looked at pictures of the meat eating owl, the plant eating rabbit and the hedgehog who eats both meat and plants… then we chose which one we wanted to help to decorate. We used natural resources to make our big group pictures…
Forest School fun…
