It was time to say a Forest School goodbye to Willows and Rowans this week. For their last session, the focus was on butterflies, and we learnt that butterfly wings are symmetrical. we worked together to make a beautiful cloth butterfly – placing a selection of flowers petals and leaves onto one of its wings, folding the cloth over and then hammering on top. It was exciting to see the colour and shape of the flowers emerging.
We also made individual butterfly pictures using more flowers and leaves, ensuring that each wing had exactly the same type and order of flowers on them. This took a lot of thought and care…well done, Willows and Rowans!
We made nature butterflies too, using a selection of natural resources. The children worked independently on these, and we were very impressed with their work.
