A windy week

We have had very strong winds and heavy rain this week. The gusts were too strong to be safe to go out into the woods…so Forest School came inside this week.

Firs used fir trees, to make these mini tree decorations. They drilled a hole in a wood slice, added some colours to it and then decorated a fir-cutting with glitter. This was then placed into the hole…
Maples continued with their Stickman activities. They were keen to make a Stickman puppet using elder sticks, which have a soft pith inside. First they used the secateurs to snip a stick into small pieces. Then they removed the pith using a hand drill, a tent peg or a skewer, depending on the thickness of the stick. These were threaded onto pipe cleaners and bent into shape…
Maples also made these beautiful Christmas cards, using some fern leaves that we have growing on the Forest School site. They worked in pairs, taking turns to hammer a leaf between a folded piece of cotton material. The hammering released the green dye for the leaf, leaving a perfect imprint.
Willows continued making the decorations they started last week.

They also made the most of the windy weather by making a kite…which they had a brilliant time flying, out in the playground.
