Mrs Claire Hynes

Senior Learning Mentor

Times of transition can be difficult for any child and so we have a dedicated member of staff, Claire Hynes, who works with children and families in order to make this time easier. Claire is our Senior Learning Mentor and works at both Langley and our federated school Beaufort.

Claire's role is varied; below are examples of some of the ways in which she can support families:

  • Supporting the behavioural, emotional and social development of the child.
  • Support with completing Disability Living Allowance claims, Family Fund Grants and other paperwork which is related to the child attending school.
  • Supporting families through the Family Common Assessment Framework process.
  • Working alongside families with a range of other professionals, for example, School Nurse, Occupational therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Family Support Workers and Social Workers.
  • Claire will also attend EHCP reviews and in-school medical appointments with patents/carers if requested.
  • Coordinating training for Triple P, Cygnet and Sleep parenting programmes in school.
  • Identifying families who might benefit from additional support from outside agencies such as MENCAP, Resources for Autism, The Burbury Park Childminding Service or Disables Children’s Social Care.

All new families are visited at home between 2 – 3 times in their first year at Langley. These visits are to share information between home and school; it is during these visits that Claire will work alongside parents to identify if any further support would benefit the family. After the first year, parents can request a home visit as and when they need by contacting Claire at school.

Claire also supports the transition from Langley to secondary provision. This process usually starts with a Secondary Transition evening for the parents of children in year 5. At this event, we welcome colleagues from secondary schools who give a short presentation about their school and answer any questions parents/carers may have. Claire also arranges visits to secondary schools for parents/carers to support them in making their choice. Claire can also arrange additional transition visits in the Summer term if a child would benefit from this.

If you require additional information please do not hesitate to contact Claire through the school.
