Maples class had a super morning doing activities related to the story ‘Superworm’
They used the loppers to cut a short stick from a very long hazel branch, and then used potato peelers to strip off the bark. This proved to be a very popular and satisfying activity!
Remembering how Wizard Lizard cast a spell on Superworm, Maples set about making their sticks into wands-adding ribbon, wool and pipe cleaners for colour and feathers, leaves and cones for a little extra magic. We will be using the wands next week…

In the Superworm story, the bees help to rescue Superworm by tying up Wizard Lizard  with sticky honey and spider webs. We made some  bees from the story, using cones, paper wings and wool.
Hollies class worked together really well to help make elderflower cordial, using the fresh flowers from our elder tree in Forest School. Firstly we filled the Kelly kettle with water, made and lit a small fire, placed the kettle on top and the.helped to add sticks to the fire. It didn’t take long for the water to boil. Whilst we were waiting for the water to cool down a little, we washed the elderflowers, cut them off the stalks and then added sliced lemons and sugar. Then we poured over the water and left the ingredients ti do their ,magic until the nest day.

There was lots of fun and creativity going on the rest of the afternoon, with games, building…and  plenty of smiles all round.
The next afternoon, Hollies children helped to strain the elderflower cordial through a muslin cloth-leaving a very tasty drink for everyone to try!
Continuing our theme of The Hungry Caterpillar, Oaks enjoyed playing with a water tray-filled with daisies and toy butterflies, making butterfly pictures using  flowers, threading lots of green leaves and finding plenty of exciting things to explore during our morning in Forest School.
