A new Forest School term began this week for Willows and Rowans.
Our learning is going to based around the topic ‘Amazing Animals’ and we started off by learning about some of the different mini-beasts we might find in and around the woods.
We looked at mini-beast books, made pictures of different mini-beasts using natural resources and went hunting under logs and around the site, to see what we could find and identity. We learnt some insects facts-for example all insects have 6 legs and 2 antenna and most of them have wings.
We also worked together to help re-vamp the mini-beast hotel. It was looking a bit weary, so we made our own paint by crushing chalk and mixing it with water…then used it to decorate the hotel. Next week we’ll add lots of different habitats, in the hope that some mini-beasts will move in!
Oaks had a super morning – with a focus on pushing and pulling. We tied ropes onto buckets and threw them over a low branch, then pulled on the rope to make the buckets rise up off the ground. It was tricky at first for the children to work out how to move backwards whilst pulling on the rope… but they soon worked it out, and really enjoyed letting go of the rope and listening to the thud of the bucket on the ground!
We also pulled trucks with ropes on, pulled ourselves up onto a tree branch, pushed a wheelbarrow and pushed our friends on the swing…
We had lots of fun, making and using chalk paint, pouring and filling with seeds, making meals with mud, drawing, reading and playing with our friends…
