Firs and Willows children enjoyed playing with torches this week in our specially made dark den!
Firs also had a great time making and painting with mud, looking at birds, using screwdrivers, exploring and clambering over logs, making muddy meals, raking the leaves, using our blackberry Play-Doh, and playing alongside their classmates…
Maples started their morning with a story – Stickman by Julia Donaldson.
They thought about some activities they could do related to the story and to using sticks…they decided to make a stick man house, a stick nest, a stick bracelet and lots of fabulous land art pictures using sticks…
Maples also had a go at making some stick and wool decorations, which are called Gods- eyes.
They wound the wall around and over the sticks, changing colours to make a pattern…

Last week, Maples had asked if we could have a fire soon, so today we thought more closely about the sorts of sticks we would need to collect, ready to make a fire next week.
We talked about the need to collect sticks of different sizes and thickness…starting with kindling which is extremely thin, and building up to the thickness of a skewer, a pencil and a felt-tip pen, then their thumb.
They hunted for sticks no longer than the length of their forearm, and checked that they were dry, not soggy or rotten.

We Finished off our morning with a fun game called mouse and owl. Maples learnt how to play this game really quickly and were very good at helping the mouse to escape from being eaten!
Willows had fun squashing blackberries and using them to paint a picture. They also made some leaf caterpillars by drilling a hole in a wood cookie, popping in a skewer and then adding different leaves.
